Self-Knowledge is one of the greatest assets and tools a leader can have. Nowhere may this be more important than thinking through how our childhood experiences and family of origin have and continue to impact our life, thinking, words, actions and leadership. Counseling around family of origin issues and influences (we all have them) is strongly recommended at least once in the adult life time of a leader. Our experiences as children can consciously and subconsciously impact our understanding of life, ourselves and others. Regardless of how healthy or strong ones upbringing is, there is always some baggage that we take into our relationships and leaderships from our families and childhood. Discovering, naming and managing these things are essential to healthy leadership.
